One of the jewels of Riviera Nayarit, the Marietas Islands

As we have been telling you, there are many activities to do during your next stay at Grand Matlali Hills Resort & Spa. Visit towns like La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Bucerías or three beaches near the resort that you will surely love.

Little by little we will be expanding your knowledge of Riviera Nayarit and the nearby places you can visit with your family, friends, or partner. However, there is one place we couldn't wait to introduce you to. Although we are sure you have already heard about it, we want to make it clear to you why this place is a must-visit in your next vacation at our hotel in Cruz de Huanacaxtle.

Of course, we are talking about the Marietas Islands. This national park has become a worldwide attraction. Its rock formations, the endemic birds that inhabit them and the enormous diversity of underwater life, are some reasons why you should take a tour to the Marietas Islands, and of course, its love beach.

Embark from La Cruz on a tour to the Marietas Islands

Just 10 minutes from Grand Matlali Hills Resort & Spa, you can rent a boat that will take you directly to the Marietas Islands. You'll find many options for tours to the Marietas Islands at the pier at La Cruz. If you plan to visit this national park, you can contact our concierge team, and they will be able to advise you on the option that best suits you and your family.

You can also go to Punta Mita and look for an authorized boat to take you to the islands. Las Marietas are located approximately 30 km from the Cruz de Huanacaxtle dock and 10 km from the Punta Mita pier. From the point you wish to explore this national park, remember to bring biodegradable sunscreen and stay hydrated along the way.

When you arrive at the islands, there are several activities you can do, among which are kayaking or paddleboarding around the islands. These rock formations are home to many birds, you can appreciate them better if you approach them by kayak or paddle board. They allow you to get closer to the rocks safely and appreciate the blue-footed boobies, humpbacked parrots, pigeon gulls, brown boobies, frigate birds, steel swallows and many more.

Snorkeling is also something you can, and definitely should, do when you take a tour to the Marietas Islands. There are 16 different species of coral and about 116 species of fish that make their home in the waters surrounding the Marietas. Below the surface, there is a multicolored spectacle that is well worth witnessing.

What you should know if you want to visit the love beach of Marietas Islands

One of the biggest attractions for visitors is the beach of love in the Marietas Islands. This curious beach that you can only access by swimming has captivated many since its discovery. Getting to this love beach in Marietas Islands is quite an adventure, but you should know that it is not available all the time.

To protect the ecosystem of the Love Beach, the number of visitors is restricted to 116 people per day. So if you plan to visit this attraction, remember to reserve your spot in advance, or you will lose the opportunity to snorkel while you get to the beach. As this is a place that can only be reached by swimming, this activity is not recommended for children under 4 years old, nor for people who do not know how to swim well.

The price for the tour to the beach of love, is higher than the general tour to the Marietas Islands, you should also keep in mind that in addition to the price for the tour, you will have to pay a fee for the use of the dock and the maintenance of the park by SEMARNAT.

Now you know what to keep in mind for your next tour to the Marietas Islands. If you plan to visit Riviera Nayarit, don't forget that at Grand Matlali Hills Resort & Spa, we have spectacular rooms overlooking the bay to welcome you.
